“Strategic Role of HR in the Future”

What will human resources look like a decade from now?

For most organizations today, the business focus has shifted from short-term survival to long-term sustainability as the U.S. and global economy continue to recover slowly from the 2008-2009 recession. Achieving sustainability will be a true test of HR leadership in the uncertain economy ahead.

According to a recent HR Professional Associations study, ‘CEOs believe that senior HR executives have done a good job working as a partner during the last few years, but going forward they expect them to couple their HR skills with a much deeper understanding of the business.’

In this presentation, YPHR’s Amy Shanon will look at the top predictions from experts for what human resources will be like in the future. Top experts are predicting that an HR executive will become CEO of a Fortune 100 firm with odds of that happening as high as 100%. We will explore the major challenges HR professionals are facing today. We will look at the trends in our workplace and HR’s role in them based on surveys conducted by groups such as Workforce Management.  This activity has been submitted for recertification credit through HRCI and SHRM.

Improving Communication with 5 Generations in the Workplace

HR Leaders are faced with many challenges daily. Adding a 5th generation of employees to the workplace has made those challenges even tougher. You may be thinking:

  • How do I recruit and retain the best and brightest young minds?
  • How will I keep Gen Z employees engaged?
  • How do I transfer the knowledge of my senior staff to the newer employees?
  • How do I create an environment that values all 5 of the generations?
  • How do I foster good communications amongst the generations?

The good news – those are some of the questions that will be answered by YPHR’s own Sonya Weiland!  This interactive program will help you understand the value of the 5 generations, learn creative ways to get the generations ‘talking’, and learn communication tools and training tips.

HR’s Role in Working with the Five Generations

Ten years ago Google was operating out of a garage, Apple was in the skids, and the founder of Facebook was in high school. What a difference a decade makes. In 2020, employees from five generations, with formative experiences ranging from World War II to World of Warcraft, will be sharing the workplace. Companies must prepare to manage their different needs, expectations, and attitudes. According to the authors, Jeanne Meister and Karie Willyerd of The 2020 Workplace, “In four years Millenials – the people born between 1977 and 1997 – will account for nearly half the employees in the world.” YPHR’s Amy Shannon will introduce the five generations in the workplace and identify three forces that are shaping the future of work. HR’s role in managing the generations will also be covered. Amy will discuss predictions for the Workforce of 2020 as well as share initiatives HR can spearhead, new skills necessary for your HR team, and leadership skills that are critical for the 2020 leader.
